Meet Rufus!
Rufus and his son, Reggie sat in a crowded pound down south for MONTHS- just waiting for a chance to be taken in by a rescue group. We could not allow them to stay there one more minute- and brought them up to join our rescue group. They are now here and are being cared for in a temporary foster home. We need to find them a more permanent foster home.
Perhaps at some point, they began to lose all hope of ever being able to land safely on all 4 paws again- in a warm home with lots of love, regular meals and human interaction. If so, their upbeat and friendly personalities certainly don't reveal this.
(You may wonder why they have been in a pound for so long? Because the pound is in a very rural, backwards area of Arkansas- and trust me- they will rot in their cage down there before they ever get adopted!
Which is why MARS has stepped up to help them. We desperately want to help this pair find their way to a better life. They are so special and deserve a chance.)
Rufus and Reggie are wonderful boys who are the best of friends. They are very tight- very bonded and we do not have the heart to split them up. We will only place them in a forever home together.

Father and son are both very gentle, easy going dogs with awesome personalities. People lovin', kid lovin' low maintenance dogs- they just want to hang out with people and be part of the action. And they certainly make a great looking pair! It's not everyday that you see such a cute couple of black and white Bassets!!
No doubt about it, Rufus and Reggie will return the love you give them 10 fold!! These boys are just waiting to meet you!
URGENT: Rufus needs a temporary foster home, while we work to find a forever home. We cover all authorized medical expenses and other necessary supplies as needed.
You simply provide a safe, loving home!

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.
Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.
Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.
If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
