Description:

Hello! I am Cash and here is my story:

I am told I am handsome and simply adorable! I couldn't agree more :-) I love to play and snuggle like a champ! I need a good walk or a play buddy to burn some of my energy since I am 11months old. Will sleep under the covers with you. Here are some details you might want to know about me:

  • House training - I was not house trained when I arrived. My foster family is working on it with me.  I've gone potty outside every day since Christmas!  I don't really ask to go out.  My foster mom has me on a schedule - I go out as soon as she gets up, before she leaves for work, as soon as she gets home from work, after dinner, then before bedtime.  I also get to go into the fenced back yard & play.  So I have plenty of opportunities to potty outside.
  • Kennel training - I don't go into the kennel on command.  My foster mom picks me up & puts me in the kennel.  I whine for about 15 minutes before I settle down.  I don't go in my kennel very often but when I do, it's usually when my foster mom thinks I'll get in trouble during the work day - i.e., she has boxes or recycling on the floor.
  • Good with other dogs &/or cats - I love the resident dogs, Aine (12 yo Pomeranian) & Zeus (2 yo dachshund mix).  We play & play.  I play more with Zeus than Aine because he's closer in age/energy to me than Aine is.  I also do well with the dogs in my training class whether they are big or small.  I haven't met any cats yet.
  • Good with kids - I really like to play with the kids in my neighborhood.  They range in age from 5-12.  They ask my foster mom if I can come out & play.  She supervises either on-leash play in the front yard or off-leash play in the fenced backyard.
  • Likes/dislikes - I LOVE toys, especially chews.  My current favorites are kongs (especially stuffed with peanut butter & kibble), a sheep horn, & a piece of deer antler.  I love going on walks.  I wish I could walk more than I do but my foster mom says it's too cold.  I love to cuddle with my foster mom or foster siblings either in bed or on the sofa.  I think I like people food & beg for it but my foster mom doesn't share it.  I really like people but am a bit hesitant at first.  When it's really cold, I don't like to go outside.  Sometimes my foster mom will have to pick me up & put me outside.
  • Shedding - I hardly shed at all but do enjoy a having a comb run over me.
  • Tooth brushing - I haven't worked my way up to this yet.  So far I let my foster mom put her fingers in my mouth.  I also really like the toothpaste!
  • Dog training - I'm currently going into classes.  I know my name, come when called, & can sit so far.  I'm going to learn a lot in class but my foster mom wants to primarily work on sit, stay, off, leave it, & give it.
  • Things to Note - I'm a jumper.  Classes are helping me not jump on people but I can still jump a 4 foot fence.  Because of that, I can't go outside unless I'm supervised or on a tie out unless the fence is a 6 foot privacy fence.  My foster mom likes to use baby gates inside the house & I can jump those too if I want.  The trick to getting me not to jump fences or gates are to either have everything I want where I am or have one I can't jump.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
