Description:

Joey was surrendered by his owner because he does not hunt and is scared of storms.  The dog would bark because he was tied outside alone in a storm.

We hope to find Joey a new home where his wonderful qualities - being super-sweet, gentle, mellow, playful (check out his picture holding a ball)- will be appreciated. And where they won't tie him up alone in a storm...

He’s all boy, loves to chase the ball. Joey does not have a lot of experience walking on a leash yet.  He is friendly with dogs and cats.  Joey appears to be housebroken and comfortable being in a crate.

Update from the foster home:
Joey has been settling into foster care and is enjoying the life of an indoor pet. It appears he has not had much or consistent training but he is highly motivated by food and has learned a fairly reliable “sit”. He loves walks, although he pulls on the leash (but it is squirrel food gathering season) and he also loves tennis balls. He has been enjoying his outings to the dog park and is extra happy if someone will throw tennis balls for him.

He does well with cats and gets along with his foster brother and other dogs at the park although he would much rather chase tennis balls than play. He will also go up for petting to other people at the dog park. He does not live with children but has done well with those that will throw balls for him at the dog park.

Joey loves to be around people and will hang out in the home office, TV room or the kitchen (his favorite room in the house). He likes tummy rubs and affection.

Joey does have some mild to moderate separation anxiety but will settle down after a while and we are working on this with him. He does OK in a crate but prefers to be out and had done fine in a locked bedroom where he sleeps while his foster mom is at work. He appears to be housetrained as long as he is kept on a regular schedule.

Joey would love a home where someone would be willing to give him training and affection. A fenced yard where he could chase tennis balls would be a real plus.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
