WOW!!! WHAT A SAD TALE THIS BOY HAS TO TELL!!!Meet Champ! Champ is such a sweet boy and he deserves the chance to live the good life. Here is a note from his rescuer: Champ's story is a very sad one. My friend and I work closely together to try to save the dogs that need it.....She asked me if I would go with her to this house in morningside to look at a black lab who was living in poor conditions. I did not think much of it initially, as my priorities are with animal control dogs. As you can all imagine there is never a shortage of black labs at an impound facility. However, I agreed and off we went. We parked at a neighbor's house and cut through the backyard. We approached a kennel that was in shambles. Disgusting to say the least. You could smell this from 15 feet away. There was dry and fresh feces on the dirt floor of the kennel. there was a wood box, apparently this was to suffice as a dog house. when we approached Champ came out of this box. he gently walked over to the edge of the kennel and jumped up to be petted. You could hear his tail wagging. The smell was overwhelming, as was his appearance. He was severely bald in several spots, his nails were extremely long and he had a tumor on his right ear. His eyes were sad, but he was happy we were there. My friend later approached the house, asking if we could have the dog. The family subsequently agreed as we pointed out that he was lacking adequate vet care. My husband and stopped back later to check on him, and my husband (typically big/tough farm guy) became tearful when he saw how he was living. It was at that moment , we knew he could not stay there any longer. He has been at my house the past 2 days. He has had 3 baths, been vaccinated, HW tested and has had skin scrapings. So far, everything is negative. He is eating and sleeping well. He has no idea what toys are and is not really interested. I have 4 male labs and a female foster dog here and he is getting along well with all. He is a gentle soul and seems relieved to be out of there. The vet thinks he is about 4-5 yrs old. She was extremely impressed with his demeanor. I am praying that someone will take the time to foster him and find him a loving home, as he has no idea what the life of a dog should be like. We need to find him a loving foster home that will be able to care for him until we can get him nursed back to health and into his FOREVER home. Being part Newfie, Champ has a lot of their characteristics. He is calm, gentle and loving. This boy is a definite keeper. URGENT: Champ needs a temporary foster home, while we work to find a forever home. We cover all authorized medical expenses and other necessary supplies as needed.
