*Good with dogs and cats
He's a very respectful dog, doesn't get up on the furniture or beds. He stretches out spread eagle on his blanket on the floor and sleeps there. He knows some basic obedience commands like sit and come. He doesn't bark much and is usually quiet.
He is definitely a hound dog, and walks with his nose and cheeks puffed out along the ground catching the scents, making a snuffling sound. He's not real fast with basset hound legs, but he is in pretty good shape. He loves to go for car rides and walks. Chubby also loves going for boat rides!
He gets overcome by the melancholy now and then, and sings in a beautiful soft alto voice. It’s not loud or really annoying, but it is the blues, and you know he is sad. If you sing with him he seems to really appreciate it. He likes to bury bones and rawhides. If you let him outside with the bone, he will bury it so well you won't be able find the spot. If you don't let him outside he will carefully select a corner and then pantomime the motions of pretending to dig, place the object, and then smooth the dirt out with his head. Then walk away quite satisfied, while the bone is just sitting there in the corner in full view. He needs a securely fenced yard or to be taken out on leash given his predilection for following his nose. He has played wonderful with the puppy in the home but has been possessive and a bit uneasy with the older dogs in the home. A home with a smaller dog or no other dogs would be best for Chubby.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters. How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
