Hi!  My name is Penelope, and I am looking for forever home.  The apartment I am living in now is pretty awesome.  There is a tiny dog that walks around, a  nice lady, and lots of strangers to say hi to every day!  If they kneel down to pet me, I jump on them and try to lick their face! We go for short walks a few times a day, which I LOVE!  Longer ones would be even better!  I walk very nicely, I take treats like a lady, I eat the crummy dry dog food they leave out, but I secretly desire the table food!  I sleep a lot, and I never, ever make a mess in the house!  Can we meet?  Once you look into my giant brown eyes, you'll be all mine!

I am Penelope's foster mom.  If you are looking for a lap dog, she is not the one for you!  Penelope is an independent, sweet dog.  She is housebroken, with no accidents.  She has run of the house and never chews anything.  When I get home, she is sleeping.  I have to touch her to wake her up, because she is deaf! But unlike any deaf dog I've ever met, she acts like a hearing dog.  She doesn't bark much, though she will bark if she sees another dog barking or if she gets bored and wants people food or play time.  She doesn't want me to cuddle with her, but she follows me everywhere, and if I sit in my chair, she is next to it on the floor, and I can pet her, especially her head and ears!  Sometimes, she rolls over on her back for a tummy scratch, and sometimes she walks away, as if she isn't used to having that much attention.

She doesn't try to get up on the furniture, and is not jealous that my other dog, and visiting dogs, are always on the furniture. In fact, I don't think she gets jealous.  She doesn't even eat mad when they bump into her when she is sleeping.  She just goes back to snorting and snoring!

She can't go down stairs, and up is tough.  She loves treats, and is not food aggressive.  She looks and acts like she is much younger!  She needs a firm hand, as she is very intelligent, and will learn to bend you to her ways!  She seems to crave that discipline, though.  But more than anything, she wants someone to love, lots of soft dog beds, a stuffed toy, and a sense of belonging, forever!

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
