Description:
Lilly is a 1 year old red doberman who has a docked tail and natural ears. She was surrendered by her owner because the other dog in the house didn't like her and lept trying to hurt her. Lilly has had a tough life so far but has come a long way from the scared Doberman in the shelter. Lilly is housetrained, crate trained, walks ok on the leash (she just gets so distracted by all the wonderful smells!), and is learning “sit.” She doesn’t know any other basic obedience commands at the moment but don’t let that intimidate you, she is extremely well behaved! Lilly loves curling up in a nice big chair and enjoys sleeping in her crate (door open) at night in our bedroom (she has never attempted to get on the bed). She is currently allowed to free-roam the house with the resident dog and cat while we are at work, and apart from spreading shoes all over the house, she has not had single accident or been destructive. Lilly is still learning what good-play is as she tends to use her mouth a lot but she never bites down. She loves tennis balls, stuffed animals, and licking your hands like crazy.
Sadly, Lilly was likely abused so she is timid of new people and surroundings but she warms up quickly with a good face rub. Due to this past, Lilly also doesn’t like certain areas of her body touched/petted but we are working on that. She lets you know she doesn’t like it by lying down and shaking. Lilly doesn’t like to be left alone so she would do well with another dog or someone who is home a lot. Lilly is a wonderful, friendly, and energetic dog that wants nothing more than a family of her own. With some love, time, and patience, she will be an amazing member of the family!
When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters. How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
