Description:

Meet the adorable and elusive Monkey!

This little guy was found wandering a metro neighborhood for days (possibly weeks) when a MARS volunteer heard about him and went to try catch him.  The entire neighborhood knew all about him, as he had been seen darting between houses, alleys, and covering several blocks. He kept coming back to the same spot, and the neighbors kept a close eye on him while trying to lure him at the same time.  After many sightings and close calls, MARS was able to finally catch him with a live trap and the help of the wonderful neighbors (it took a whole week!)

There had been several people who thought Monkey (affectionately and appropriately named by the neighbors) was their missing dog, but they all turned out to be false alarms. Monkey has been staying in a foster home with two other doggie friends (one who is a puppy), three kitty friends (he is GREAT with cats) and has shown to be an affectionate little fluff ball of love… for a stubborn little dog who didn’t want to be caught, he sure loves his humans.

He was a matted mess of fur when he came into foster care, but he has since been bathed and groomed, and he looks great!  He makes friends very quickly, but is still learning that it’s okay if his humans aren’t always within eyesight.  Monkey would do best in a home with humans who are home most of the day, or with other doggie friends to play with and keep him company.  Because of his former “stray” days, he needs a secure environment (a privacy fence would be ideal), and should not be left alone outside.

He loves to be held, loves riding in the car, and does well on a leash.  He would make a great companion dog, or even with a family that has small children.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
