Penny is a beautiful Staffie/lab mix. (Probably more lab with her love for water!) I can’t say enough good things about her. If we could have two dogs (can’t due to allergies) she would join our family right now. She’s mellow, doesn’t jump, knows quite a few commands (even goes potty on command which is nice when it’s time to go somewhere) Penny loves everyone she meets. Especially loves children. She doesn’t jump so she’s very good with little ones. She plays well with other dogs. On walks she still pulls a bit but getting much better. Everyone she has met has commented on how well behaved, mellow, easy going and loving she is. She greets people by wagging her tail so hard her whole body moves. When she does that we call her wiggle-bum. Penny would be a good candidate for therapy dog training.
We crate her when we leave, she has no problems with that. At night she picks either of the kids' room and sleeps at the foot of their beds. She doesn’t chew or take things she’s not suppose to. She enjoys and keeps busy by calmly chewing on bones.
We have gone to a lot of places with her and have had a lot of people over to our house or cabin. She adapts quickly to any environment she’s in and still has her sweet, calm disposition. We flew to our cabin in our small plane and she LOVED it. We couldn’t believe it! At the lake, she swam like a champ and liked retrieving sticks. Her recall is very good. I wouldn’t say excellent yet since she hesitates at coming back when her nose picks up a scent but she doesn’t run away. I trust her off leash in a safe area. The minute Penny sees the car door opened, she’s in it and you can see the look on her face “lets go!”
If you’re looking for a truly great dog who wants nothing more than to love and be loved, you need to meet Penny. You’ll thank your lucky star you gave her and yourself that chance.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters. How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
