Meet Gina!

She came to our rescue pregnant, boy was that a surprise! She has now had her pups and is focusing on her self once again.  She is blossoming in confidence.

Now she follows us from room to room, just happy to be in our presence, always wagging her tail and looking for scratches behind the ears. She just LOVES to be petted. She also has very good house manners! She has never had an accident and leaves the furniture alone.

Dogs on the other hand are all Gina's friends. Big and small, she plays with them all. She absolutely loves to romp around with our two dogs, and has been nothing but the picture of sociability and friendliness when meeting other's dogs. The dog park is heaven!

She is making good strides on the leash and starting to recognize "off" and "down" when it comes to greeting people. She also takes treats as sweetly as can be. As a dog of moderate activity level, she would do well with a family that could take her on regular walks and have playtime. She also loves her couch potato time, and wants nothing more than to be resting in your presence.

You wouldn't know this little girl has had a hard life from her mannerisms. She is just the happiest, sweetest dog--a true testament to her resilience and desire for a happily ever after story. A little timid at first, but hey that's Gina--she's learning and ever evolving and can't wait to find home!

Update:
Surprise surprise! Gina has amazed us all and changed her mind on cats! We wouldn't have believed it if we didn't see it with our own eyes, but just recently we caught her playing with our cat Christmas. He batted her nose....and she nuzzled him back! She will still give a quick chase if she's really excited, but we've started to see that it has become much more friendly and in fact the cat encourages it. A little vocal reminder "Gina be sweet" and she stops in her tracks. Other times she ignores him entirely in order to play with us or her doggie friends, or now increasingly seeks out the cat in particular to give him a little sniff and nuzzle. Her curiosity has shifted to friendliness, and now she has a new playmate! :) Her demeanor towards cats might depend somewhat on the cat she's meeting, but this has been very positive and encouraging to watch develop.

On other notes, Gina loves her name and will come readily when called. She doesn't bolt when let outdoors in an unfenced area and is very responsive to your signals to stay close. She will actually come running across an entire open field when we hold our arms open and happily yell "Come Gina!" She also has decided that dog beds are cool! :) She now looks for one to plop down in and sees it as her safe place. She is really coming along fantastically and we are so excited for her.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
