Hi My name is Zelda!

I know, I am beautiful, but I am also very loving and really want to be somebody’s girl.

I have been at the local impound in Minnesota,  I was once someone’s dog, even microchipped.  But sadly, I sat in impound and my people never came for me.

See, I am what they call a Senior girl.  I am 8 years young, gorgeous big brown eyes, beautiful temperament, and all I want to do is spend my last years in a warm home with someone who will love me no matter how “old” I get.

MARS took one look at me, and came and got me from the pound.  I have a foster home who is going to take good care of me, but it's just not the same, is NOT my home.

Won’t you consider giving this old/young girl a chance?  I promise to be faithful and to love you and lay by your feet and let you pet me for as long as you want.

Here is an update from Zelda's foster home:

Zelda is a great dog. She is calm and gentle, very friendly and sweet. She loves being around you, and will follow you around the house.  She is super cute; her pictures don’t do her justice. Just wait until you see her trot and her ears bouncing!

Zelda loves to be petted, and will occasionally lick your face in return! She has very soft fur, and likes to be brushed. Zelda greets visitors and her foster parents at the door, but she doesn’t jump on them or bark – she is very well behaved. Zelda comes in when called (unless a neighbor is walking by and she just has to say hello!) and listens to the command sit when her food is being prepared.

We have truly loved having Zelda around and are excited for her to find her forever home. Don’t miss this wonderful dog.

Prayer of a Senior Homeless Dog

One by one they pass my cage,
Too old, too worn, too broken, no way.
Way past his prime he can't run and play,
Then they shake their heads slowly and go on their way
A little old man, arthritic and sore,
It seems I am not wanted anymore.
I once had a home, I once had a bed,
A place that was warm, and where I was fed.
Now my muzzle is grey, and my eyes slowly fail,
Who wants a dog so old and so frail?
My family decided I didn't belong,
I got in their way, my attitude was wrong.
Whatever excuse they made in their head
Can't justify how they left me for dead.
Now I sit in this cage, where day after day,
The younger dogs get adopted away.
When I had almost come to the end of my rope,
You saw my face and I finally had hope.
You saw through the grey, and the legs bent with age,
And felt I still had life beyond the cage.
You took me home, gave me food and a bed.
And shared your own pillow with my poor tired head.
We snuggle and play, and you talk to me low,
You love me so dearly and want me to know.
I may have lived most of my life with another,
But you outshine them with a love so much stronger.

I promise to return all the love I can give,
To You, my dear person, as long as I live.
I may be with you for a week or for years,
We will share many smiles, you will no doubt shed tears.
And when the time comes that God deems I must leave,
I know you will cry and your heart will grieve.
And when I arrive at the Bridge, all brand new,
My thoughts and my heart will still be with you.
And I will brag to all who will hear,
Of the person who made my last days so dear.

11/08/10 Here is an update from Zelda's adoptive home!

I wanted to let everyone know that Zelda is settling in very well ! She
really looks forward to her walks which give her a tremendous amount of
scenery and wildlife to watch and want to chase ! Other than sleeping and
standing guard at the front door she doesn't have time for much more. She
is doing very well and seems very content.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
