Description:

Hi, My name is Koi and I might just be the sweetest little pup that ever there was.

I’m learning how to go potty outside.  I mainly go in my designated spot in the grass behind the house, but sometimes go on walks too. I wear a Belly Band in the house because sometimes I still have pee accidents, mostly when I’m very excited.  The diapers keep any mess from happening and I am confident that soon I won’t need them at all.

I’m a bit nervous about the world at large, and don’t love leaving the home I know is safe but once I’m out on a walk, I am very good on the leash and I don’t bark at other dogs or people.  I don’t even chase squirrels or rabbits.  Cats, however, pique my curiosity and I want to chase them, but don’t growl or bark when I do.

My foster family is working with me daily on  basic commands (I know sit, down, stay, fetch, and am working on touch and focus in general) and I would really thrive with a human who wants to continue training me with patience and diligence.  I am eager to please, and to learn.  I will bark to alert you if someone comes near our home, but if you calmly call me to you, I will quickly quiet and sit for you.  I currently stay in my crate contentedly at night and when my humans are out of the house, but if you are home, I will cry to be in the same room as you.  I do not mind when you leave the house but knowing you’re near and not with me is very hard.  My favorite thing in the world is to snuggle the humans I feel safe with.

I’m playful and have bursts of high energy, but have earned my foster human’s trust with their little one which is a great privilege.  I could do well in a family with children, as long as you understand that I have some anxiety and help to make sure my body and space are treated with respect. This includes watching my body language to know when I’m feeling overstimulated so you can give me some quiet time or time in my crate.  Really we should all do that for each other anyway, right?  I also think I would thrive with another dog to bond with, play with and learn from.

I’m still a puppy and have lots of learning to do, and I know I will make someone an excellent companion for years to come!

 * Puppies under 5 months should not be left alone for more than 4 hours at a time to help them with potty training and socialization.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
