Description:
Carlton is the happiest boy who just wants to please his human! He is so full of love and joy - he does not ask for much, he just wants to be loved. He is a velcro dog and does need reassurance his human is close by. He LOVES belly rubs! He smiles even in his sleep and his tail is constantly wagging!

He loves walks! He just loves to explore! Everything is new and interesting to him and I feel like he is just now learning how to be a dog at 5 years old. He is learning that he is loved and safe. He is a strong boy so be aware as has instincts and will pull if something really exciting (squirrel in the tree, ducks) but is also easy to divert. I say his name and tell him he's a good boy and he usually redirects pretty quickly! He wants every single dog and person to stop and say hello to him! Since I have had him, every dog he has greeted on leash, he has been so friendly with! Big and small dogs, just sniffs and greets them. Loves people and has not once jumped on anyone. The only time he has barked is if a dog has barked at him first and he has barked back.

He is not super food motivated but seems to be eating more now that he's feeling more comfortable. He has not shown interest in toys for his previous foster and I have not tried any with him. I don't think he has been taught basic commands (sit, down) as I tried once and he looked at me like I was crazy LOL!

He is very well mannered. He is curious and will sniff but has not chewed on anything around the home. He does "mark" and lifted his leg when he got into this foster home but I said NO! and he knew not to mark and has not wanted to since. He is completely potty trained.

Carlton does this SILLY thing where he becomes part kangaroo and springs himself into the air! LIke 3+ feet high! If he gets really excited (sees a duck, squirrel running up tree), he will "air jump" like this, multiple times in a row! Purely out of joy and excitement! He is a character!

I wonder if a fellow dog in the home could be beneficial (but not necessary) for him - a dog who would cuddle with him, reassure him, teach him how to be a dog

Carlton is so gentle - when I give him treats, he takes them so gently

*Thunderstorms and fireworks don’t seem to bother him!

*He’s starting to love car rides and becoming a good little rider! Also loves pupcups!

* An active younger/or older retired couple may be perfect for him, if not a bigger family with kids. He loves walks, being with his people and would be great going to breweries and patio restaurants. We’ve walked around pet stores a few times and he does great!

* He’s a great snuggler and loves to sleep with his person. But he did fine in his crate the first couple nights here well - kept next to bed so he could see me

*Carlton doesn’t ask for much! He’s a happy go lucky dog looking for love and his forever people!

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
