Description:
Bailey is 5-7 years old. He's a very happy and well behaved boy. He approaches strangers in a friendly manner and enjoys making new friends. He's a leaner and really enjoys having his rump scratched. He is very responsive to voice commands and is eager to please. He walks well on leash and will sit on a dime. When it's time for him to go outside he can be let out of his kennel off leash, told "outside" and he goes strait to out out door to be let outside. When it's time to come back inside and you tell him "kennel" he goes straight to his kennel and waits for a treat. He is very food motivated and will do anything for a treat. He'll even "heal" off leash if I have a yummy treat in my hand. Although he doesn't appear to know "leave it" he responds to a firm "eh heh" or "no".

He greets other dogs in a friendly manner and is particularly fond of the calmer dogs that are close to his age. He is infatuated with a female cairn terrier we currently have. He tolerated the young crazy dog we introduced him to but probably would have put him in his place had we allowed the young dog to continue with his obnoxious behavior. He will bark at unfamiliar dogs that approach his kennel but settles down when he's corrected. When a familiar dog approaches his kennel he greets them at the front of his kennel with a wagging tail. He has obviously lived with cats previously. He approached our clinic cat cautiously with a wagging tail, carefully side-stepped up to her and gently offered her a kiss all while not making eye contact. When she started rubbing on him and sniffing him he froze in place. My guess is that he's been taught a lesson or two in the past by a bully cat.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
