If you are searching for a social butterfly to steal your heart, look no further. Heidi can save you from an avalanche and demands payment in belly rubs.

Heidi is a loving, goofy medium energy pup who plays well with the resident dogs and cats. She likes to share her toys with her friends . She quickly adapted to life with weird species-confused cats and enjoys kitty cuddles. Heidi also knows to give kitties space when they make growly noises.

Heidi is about two years old and true to her breed, her body is dog but her brain is still somewhat puppy. She learns fairly quickly and is easy to motivate. Heidi has learned that “sit” doesn’t necessarily require her butt to be on the floor. She wants a family to understand that her cuddles require couches where she can get extra comfy.

Heidi’s fosters will be introducing her to the gentle leader head halter and encourage her new family to attend basic obedience classes together. She will likely know most commands by the time she is adopted, however, structured training classes with positive reinforcement are highly recommended for any dog this size. Heidi loves training and strives to communicate with her people.

Potty training has gone well and she talks or goes to the door when she feels the need. Heidi has not tried to jump a 4 foot fence but has not been left unsupervised. She should have a fenced yard to play in at her forever home. There have not been any middle of the night potty tantrums and she has free roam of the house.

Heidi would love a home with kids that don’t mind being knocked over, or people that like to attend dog friendly social events such as breweries, dog parks, or play dates. She would also prefer a home with other furry siblings.

*great news- heartworm negative!
*mixed news - not pregnant but currently in heat

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
