Description:
Meet Janis! Janis was left in a drop off kennel at a shelter with no information. She is thought to be around 10 years old. Hard to believe someone could just dispose of her like that. Sweet Janis! Miss Janis is an absolutely lovely ol' gal who wants nothing more than the security of a loving home who will snuggle her and sit in the sunshine with her. She loves everyone, furry and not furry, and will fit so easily and naturally into the right home.
Janis is a senior gal (look at that beautiful smiling gray face!) so naturally with that come a few considerations. She's not awesome on stairs....can manage them if they are carpeted and she goes slowly, but I like to make sure I'm also there to catch her if she slips. So one-level living is ideal but not a total deal breaker. She is doing well with stairway at fosters home.
All the sweet baby talk she receives - and deserves! - falls on deaf ears. Literally. Janis is deaf. So she doesn't always know that you're about to pet her mid-snooze, or that you've come home (I've had to play 'find the Janis' each time as she'll sometimes sneak off to snooze in another room). For that reason, she'd prefer a home with no small kids. She's an absolute sweetheart and wouldn't harm a fly - for for her sake, the sudden movements and jostling around would not be fun for her. Ever notice how the older you get, the more trips to the bathroom you might need? Well, Janis too. She is housetrained but her bladder doesn't have the longevity of a wee pup anymore so she'd like to go to a home where her person isn't gone for long periods of time. Not only for potty purposes, but also companionship. You see, Janis is feeling a bit insecure. We don't know her story (she was just dumped overnight in the outside kennel at the shelter, poor dear) but it's easy to imagine that something happened to her long-time home and her world has been turned upside down. She is so well mannered, and so loving, that she appears to have had a home at some point. But now that everything's been shaken up, she is understandably a bit (ok, a lot) clingy to her foster mom. She follows her everywhere she goes, and just wants to be by her side. Janis' favorite kind of day? Outside! With Foster Mama! Janis appears to be solar powered. She loves being outside so much that on a sunny day she'll prance around the yard exploring and enjoying life (always with one eye on human to make sure she's still there). The need to keep foster mom in sight is greater than the pull to be outdoors, so she'll just hang out like this if her person is out with her - otherwise potty time outside is super quick and to the point. Her confidence will likely grow back once she finds her forever home and can relax a bit to realize she is not going to be abandoned again.
This ol' gal is SO deserving of a warm and loving home. She is one of the sweetest souls you'll ever encounter. Her needs are few but her return on love is abundant.
When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters. How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
