Meet Mattie!

Mattie came to us from a rural puppy mill. She finally understands what it is like to live outside of a cramped cage.

This little girl is very sweet, but she is shy around new people. She eventually warms up to strangers though. She has been living with an emergency foster for a while now and is learning what it is like to be a normal dog who is loved.

Mattie is a sweet little girl that needs a lot of attention, and has a lot of love to give. She is low key and low maintenance. She likes other dogs and enjoys playing with them. Her favorite thing to do is curl up in a blanket on her dog bed. She has so much fun outside exploring, that's what gets her tail wagging! She is starting to get the hang of pottytraining and is truly a sweet little gal. A fenced in yard is a must for Mattie.

UPDATE FROM MATTIE'S FOSTER: First, we've been calling her Maggie May. It took Maggie about a day to settle in here at her new foster home. She can be a little stubborn at times, but once she learns the rules are the rules, she learns quickly & is very inquisitive--she's constantly observing. She even watches TV & barks when she hears other dogs on TV barking.

Maggie is doing great with house training. She now goes outside with our dogs & comes back in without us having to carry her, gently herd her, or put her paws on the door sill anymore! She doesn't alert us yet if she needs to go out--she just seems to be on the same schedule as our dogs & follows them.

Maggie now eats in the kitchen alongside our dogs, makes the rounds of the house regularly, & goes upstairs to sleep in a kennel box next to our bed at night with only a little complaining. If I have to go out, she stays in a kennel box right next to my dogs, who are also in a kennel box. As soon as we let them out of the box, they go outside, so Maggie has that routine down pretty well now.

Maggie is timid but very sweet, lets us pet her gently, & loves chewing on bones, but her favorite game is rolling around on the couch & smiling as she pushes the blankets off! She even takes treats from my hand now, although still very timidly. Maggie holds her head up high, wags her tail, & has even found her voice!

It's awesome to see Maggie May making progress every day & enjoying life!

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
