Description:
Carl came from a rural puppy mill. He had never lived a day of his life as a normal pet in a home, with the love and attention a pet deserves. He likely spent 24 hours a day in a crate, where he had to eat, sleep and potty. It is possible he has never even been petted in his life. He was just rescued from that terrible life and is now in a special foster home to help him learn what it is like to be a dog.

Because Carl came from a rural breeder, he needs help with socialization and adjusting to life in a home environment. Fenced yards and a home with other stable dogs to show them the ropes are best for dogs coming from this type of situation.

Find out how rewarding it can be to teach this sweet boy how to love and be loved.

AN UPDATE FROM CARL'S FOSTER HOME:

Carl is a darling fellow! He is as friendly as he is cute. A bit timid at first but he warms up quickly to all people. He enjoys everyone he meets including children, dogs, and cats. He has mastered jumping over baby gates in his quest to find company. He suffers a bit from separation anxiety and will bark when left alone. You will find him gazing out the patio windows watching for rabbits and squirrels to admire. Often he is chasing and wrestling with our resident dogs. He rarely barks even when the other dogs start bellowing. He is leash trained and enjoys long walks.
He also travels well in the car. He is not a fan of baths but doesn't seem to mind being brushed. He has had a few potty accidents so he will need to be monitored until he has his house training mastered. He is a true treasure!

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
