Description:

Marvel is a young cattle dog (known as a Red Heeler; he's most likely mixed with a bit of Corgi). He's house trained, potty trained & crate trained (9 hrs on work days).

Marvel is adored in his foster home, & has so many wonderful qualities:

He loves kids (maybe too much!)- he likes to keep them all together, so he can watch over them (he is a herding breeds) older kids are probably more appropriate. Marvel is good with cats; he sleeps nose-to-nose, most nights, with one of the 3 cats, He displays good cat etiquette (he doesn't chase or herd them). He is also good with dogs. Currently, he lives with 2 large dogs.

Marvel is extremely affectionate & bonds quickly with his family. He alerts his family if there is somebody near his home.

The sky is the limit when it comes to training Marvel. He is treat & affection motivated. Ask him, & he will gladly do, as he only wants to please. . He's proficient in basic obedience: "sit" "down" "stay" "shake" & "leave it"  Marvel walks great on a leash & is learning not to bark at other dogs on his walks.

Marvel's exercise routine consists of: aerobic energy via running & playing with the resident dog (in a fenced yard) playing fetch & walking a mile most days. Marvel would also make a great running partner. In a home as an only dog, without runners, he could play fetch in lieu of the aerobic exercise he currently gets.

Marvel can get a bit jealous when it comes to his people interacting with the other pets in the home. When he is told to "leave it," he does. He has good impulse control. His future family just needs to anticipate jealousy, to keep him in line. Ideally, Marvel would love to be in a home where he is the center of attention, when it comes to affection; but he's always lived with other dogs & cats.

Marvel has a short coat, sheds very little & he does very well nail trimming

He would excel at agility, maybe even search n' rescue & could easily train for and pass the, Canine Good Citizen Certification & brighten many people's days as a therapy dog. That being said, Marvel doesn't have any special jobs or advanced training in his foster home & is content being a companion animal.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
