Description:

Meet Barron!

Barron seems to like everyone he meets and is very affectionate.  He thinks he's a lap dog even though he's 50 pounds!!

Dogs:

  • He gets along great with his foster's 2 dogs and loves to run out and explore the yard with them.

Cats:

  • Barron is learning to respect his fosters cat's need for space, even though his curious puppy attitude still earns him a hiss and a swat from time to time.
General Training:
  • Barron is very food motivated and has quickly learned that good behavior earns him a delicious treat.
  • He is adept at recall and the sit command, but still needs some work with stay, down and other tricks.
  • He likes the leash and will walk well on it.  He naturally heals, but needs a little more work with loose leash walking since he will still pull.
House-training/Kennel-crate training:
  • Barron has adapted well to a schedule of bathroom breaks and kennel time. He has learned to use the restroom outside and hasn't had an accident in the house for a few weeks now.
  • Barron eagerly enters his kennel with the help of a treat tossed in and settles down without panicking when the door is secured.

Other:

  • Barron is quiet and rarely barks, even when our dogs are barking like crazy at the UPS delivery man.
  • Barron hasn't had any exposure to small children while in his foster home. His puppy boisterousness might not be a good match to toddlers and other small humans who are easily knocked over because he is still learning not to jump up and push.  With additional training this behavior will get better.
  • He loves to chew on things and particularly likes rawhides and other chew toys.  He will chase balls and sticks but doesn't like bringing them back.  He also likes to mouth on hands and clothing like a puppy, but is learning that behaviour isn't appropriate.

Barron is a lovable dog and would be a great fit for a family who wants a cuddly Bassett mix who also isn't afraid to run around and enjoy all sorts of activities!  He would be a true companion for his new family!

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
